The Fed Challenge Team is tied for the record of reaching the semifinal round in the Second Federal Reserve District Liberty Street Division after this year’s competition.ĭr. With the participation of an advisory group of alumni, the club started a chapter of Startup Grind. The Entrepreneurship Club under the leadership of Christopher Santana ’19 took command of moving the Innovation Space project forward. Kent Newhart was selected as the BGS Chapter Honoree. The SEB’s chapter of the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) international honor society for business programs again received public recognition as a “Highest Honors Chapter.” The BGS chapter also saw its nomination of ABM Industries President and CEO Scott Salmirs ’84 culminate in his winning the Business Achievement Award from BGS-The International Business Honor Society. ![]() The accomplishments of our students, faculty and alumni reached new levels. The SEB placed among the top 10 percent globally of Bloomberg’s 950 educational clients and is one of only two SUNY institutions to have earned the ELP designation. The final tally was a striking 188, earning the honor of Bloomberg Experiential Learning Partner (ELP). The SEB set a goal to have 100 students complete the Bloomberg Market Concepts certification. SUNY Oneonta became a member of a highly select group of universities that are Bloomberg Experiential Learning Partners. Speaking of finance, the SEB has participated in Bloomberg for Education for six years. It has made an immediate and significant impact upon teaching and learning in finance. Kent Newhart ’77 created a fund that led to an innovative first for the School of Economics and Business and SUNY Oneonta: a student-managed investment portfolio that began in spring 2019. Yet the energy and enthusiasm of our students, faculty, staff and alumni have taken the SEB to new heights. The impressive outcomes of last year would certainly appear to be difficult to rival. The School of Economics and Business has pursued refinements to its programs and students’ educational experiences through increased reliance on the practice of involving advisory councils in the inception, design and development. Last year in this forum, I described efforts to maintain and improve relationships for internships, employment placement, leadership opportunities, mentoring, and alumni involvement. Applied and experiential learning have been the defining initiatives and accomplishments of the 2018-19 academic year. ![]()
